Social researcher and honorary fellow at the University of York, with over 30 years’ experience of research and practice within the international development sector.
My research falls into two main areas. Firstly, the political economy of global development. I am interested in power-knowledge relations shaping global development institutions, policies and practice, with a particular focus on agriculture, technology and rural development, and the role of philanthropic foundations. Secondly, rural sociology and politics. Recent research has analysed rural drivers of right-wing populism in Europe (particularly Brexit) and gendered impacts of rural ’emptiness’ in Northern Albania.
Recent work has been published in Economy and Society, The Journal of Peasant Studies, Sociologia Ruralis, New Political Economy and Business and Society, and various edited collections and handbooks.
I am on the Council and National Secretary of Global Justice Now and a member of the Academic Advisory Group of Another Europe is Possible
